Van Cleef & Arpels was founded in 1906 by Alfred Van Cleef, who was a descendant of a stone cutter and his wife’s brother Charles Arpels, a descendant of a dealer in precious stones. Their first boutique with jewellery was located in Place Vendome in Paris and was a big success amongst European aristocracy. After a while, with growing popularity Van Cleef & Arpels has started making gorgeous jewellery for royalties and celebrities.
